Job Description

The YWCA Career Zone is a youth employment centre helping youth ages 16 to 30 find employment and plan careers through employment counselling, case management, job search and career planning workshops, active resource centre, short- and long-term training, self-employment planning, employment programs, access to clinical counselling, and community resources.   

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Work one to one with clients of all genders/non-binary, 16-30 years of age, in a drop-in employment resource center to assist them with employment related needs.  The clients range from street-involved youth to those coming from post-secondary 

  • Work within the provincial WorkBC multi-agency employment model  

  • Workshop development and facilitation, including providing online workshops 

  • Providing in-person and online services, including delivery from the Career Zone four days a week 

  • Maintain up-to-date information on labour market trends, job postings, employment issues, community resources, education planning, volunteer opportunities, and other relevant employment related supports 

  • Conduct orientation tours and intakes with clients to provide a preliminary needs determination 

  • Be part of the community outreach team to coordinate and attend community events, meetings, materials distribution and support any events at the Career Zone 

  • Be familiar with and able to work with clients using the latest technology 

  • Work as part of a team to deliver a comprehensive program designed to meet individual needs in person at the Career Zone 

  • Other duties as required  

What you’ll need: 

  • Passion for working with youth around employment issues, including multi-barriered  

  • Post-secondary education, a minimum of two years’ experience working in a related field, or a combination of education and/or experience 

  • Experience working with multi-barriered youth will be considered an asset  

  • Ability to work in a flexible, youth friendly environment and relate well with youth 

  • Knowledge of programs & services in Metro Vancouver 

  • Knowledge and experience providing employment counselling an asset  

  • Understanding of the labour market in Metro Vancouver 

  • Additional languages an asset 

  • Strong team player with initiative  

  • Must have excellent computer skills 

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.  

  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
