We are currently seeking an experienced Building Operator to join our Hotel Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this position impacts the guest through general and preventative maintenance, repair and upkeep of guestrooms, equipment, public and common areas.
The purpose of this position is to perform all duties required for the physical operation of the property such as minor plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, renovation work and other related duties in an efficient and effective manner. This position will cooperate with other departments to achieve a high level of guest satisfaction.
What you’ll be doing:

Provide immediate attention to guests’ requests/work orders
-
Perform general handyperson tasks such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and renovation work and other related duties in a safe, efficient and effective manner
-
Ensures the building is in good condition by performing daily repairs and maintenance as needed
-
Proactively identify and report issues, items requiring repairs or replacement before it becomes a big problem

Troubleshoot/repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security
-
Complete preventative maintenance work orders as assigned
-
Maintain inventory of essential tools and spare parts
-
Maintain accurate log and maintenance records daily
-
Attend to co-workers’ work orders
-
Communicate effectively and respectfully with guests and co-workers
-
Perform all tasks in an efficient and safe manner
-
Perform outside custodial duties such as snow removal, minor landscaping and pressure washing as required
-
Assist in meeting room set-up and janitorial service in the absence of the Building Maintenance Worker (BMW) and Building Services Worker (BSW)

Work various shifts and extended shifts in times of emergency

Work with/cooperate and directly liaise with other departments to help achieve a high level of guest satisfaction

Promote and help maintain a Health & Safety conscious work environment

Ability to work independently with little to no supervision; while being flexible enough to be team-oriented

Other duties/projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager
What you’ll need:
-
Minimum of 3-5 years experience and skills in building maintenance.
-
Previous hospitality experience is an asset.
-
General handyperson skills are necessary – plumbing, minor equipment repair, carpentry, HVAC, etc.

Must have a passion for guest service
-
Highly organized, results oriented and excellent trouble shooting skills.

Able to maintain a positive and objective outlook in challenging situations.

Must be team oriented with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision.
-
Ability to handle various hand and power tools in a safe manner.

Knowledge of chemicals and cleaning products (WHIMIS)
-
Adapts to differing circumstances on a day-to-day basis and naturally skilled in multi-tasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and openly in all interactions, both verbal and written
-
Physical aspects of this position include, but are not limited to: constant standing and walking throughout shift; frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; ascending or descending stairs and ramps.

The successful candidate will be required to work varying schedules and shifts

A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
