Job Description

The Maintenance Worker, under the direction of the Senior Property Manager, is responsible for performing general landscaping, maintenance and repairs for the YWCA Metro Vancouver Housing Services and Violence Prevention Department.

Pay: $23.00/hr

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance work assigned by the Assets Clerk
  • Complete daily report outlining status of work assigned that day
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner
  • Maintain records on all work completed, as directed
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on housing structures and equipment, including furnace systems, air conditioning systems etc,
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces, as required
  • Perform a variety of minor plumbing tasks, as required
  • Operate grounds-keeping equipment and maintain external property
  • Perform minor carpentry tasks, as required
  • Perform minor cleaning tasks as required
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain various electrical components, appliances and equipment in accordance with pertinent codes, the preventative maintenance program and departmental procedures
  • Change locks, as required
  • Replace burnt out common area light bulbs promptly
  • Change furnace and air conditioning filters as needed
  • Replace/install window blinds, as required
  • Perform regular workplace inspections to determine areas that need maintenance or repairs
  • Complete all necessary reports and records related to the department, as required
  • Consistently use Safetyline
  • Maintain clean work and orderly work areas
  • Maintain adequate supplies for maintenance work at each site
  • Comply with safety regulations
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools while performing duties
  • Assist in the orientation of new maintenance staff, as required
  • Any other duties, as required

Requirements

  • Previous work experience in building maintenance considered an asset
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish priorities
  • Ability to maintain organization of maintenance work and records of maintenance work in a changing environment
  • Ability to perform minor repair work
  • Ability to paint quickly and accurately
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • High level of independent judgment and reasoning
  • Ability to effectively communicate
  • Strong attention to detail
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • May require wearing safety equipment (steel toe boots, gloves, safety goggles etc.)
  • Hazards associated with the trade
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
