Volunteer Description

Come out and volunteer with us as Vancouver Triathlon celebrates its 20th year! Proceeds from the race support YWCA Metro Vancouver.

Please refer to volunteer position descriptions below to see what is needed and how you can help. If you have a preference for a particular volunteer role, we will do our best to accommodate. However, volunteers may be reassigned on the day, due to changes in turnout.

Hand out last minute race packages and identification numbering to athletes. Help with volunteer registration as needed.

This position is only open to volunteers who act as a race package pickup volunteer prior to the event.

Swim Marshall

Monday, Sept. 5thd

6:30AM to 10:30AM

Assist athletes out of the water, over the timing mats and towards transition in Ceperley Field. Also ensure that the area is clear of any spectators. After the swim portion of the triathlon is complete, you will transition into another position as needed.

Volunteers will be outside on the race course. You should feel comfortable speaking to crowds, giving directions and be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.

Bike Marshall

Monday, Sept. 5thd

6:30AM to 11:30 AM

Direct athletes along bike route and cheer on their progress. Also let members of the public know that a triathlon is in progress.

Volunteers will be outside on the race course. You should feel comfortable speaking to crowds, giving directions and be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.

-park entrance/pipeline

- 1 or 2 other spots as necessary

Run Marshall

Monday, Sept. 5th

6:30AM to 1:00PM

Direct athletes along the final leg of the triathlon. Also let members of the public know that a triathlon is in progress.

Volunteers will be outside on the race course. You should feel comfortable speaking to crowds, giving directions and be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.

Congestion Area Marshall

Monday Sept. 5th

6:30AM to 11:30

Direct athletes and crowd in the congested area outside of transition where the cycle & run courses converge. 

Volunteers will be outside on the race course in a high traffic area. You should feel comfortable speaking and directing crowds and be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.

Transition Marshall

Monday, Sept. 5th

6:00AM to 12:00AM

Direct athletes within the busy transition area. Ensure they follow all safety guidelines.

Volunteers will be outside on the race course. You should feel comfortable speaking to crowds, giving directions and be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.

Hydration Station Monitor

Monday, Sept. 5th

6:00AM to 11:30M

Help keep the athletes hydrated. Fill and hand out cups. Ensure the area is kept clean and waste is properly disposed of.

Volunteers will have direct contact with athletes and must have excellent customer service skills.

General Assistance Volunteer

Monday, Sept. 5th

6:00AM to 1:00PM

Help out in various ways! This position will involve taking direction from several people and could include making deliveries, helping with set up and filling in during breaks.

This position is best suited to someone who likes a dynamic volunteer experience and is flexible about what tasks they perform!

Finish Line and Awards Assistant

Monday, Sept. 5th

8:30 AM to 1:00PM

Help athletes as they cross the finish line. Remove their timing chip. Help to arrange set-up finish area, awards and draw for prizes. Clean up and tear-down finish area when event is complete.

Volunteers will have direct contact with athletes and must have excellent customer service skills. This is best suited to someone who enjoys completing various tasks and is very organized.

Event Tear-Down

Monday Sept. 5th

1:00pm  to 3:00pm

Help take down the course including removing signage, booths and bike storage areas and place in storage areas as directed.

Must be able to lift 25lb objects and be able to stand for 3 hours.

The minimum age to volunteer for this event is 16.
