GREEN PROGRAMS AND INITATIVES AT YWCA HOTEL VANCOUVER
Over the past few years, we have integrated a variety of green practices into our operations and continuously assessed the best initiatives that will contribute to our sustainability program.
These initiatives include:
- Using boiler system that will cut greenhouse gas and carbon emissions
- Installing low-flow showerheads in guest rooms
- Installing double-insulated hot water tanks to reduce the amount of steam energy needed to heat the water
- Having reinsulated piping to reduce heat loss
- Installing energy efficient cooling towers as well as cooling/heating units in guest rooms
- Having energy-saving light bulbs in guest rooms and public areas
- Replacing thermostats with programmable thermostats
- Using energy efficient refrigerators
- Offering linen and towel reuse program to guests
- Implementing compost and recycling programs in guest rooms and common areas
- Replacing individual packaging of soap, shampoo and conditioner with wall-mounted dispensers
- Offering guests a dish set and utensils while staying with us
- Donating furniture and amenities that are no longer in use
- Completing the building envelop project that will help with insulation
- Replacing plastic key cards and paper door hangers with green alternatives
