YWCA Simplify the Season: Brighten the Holidays for Families in Need

As we approach another holiday season, many of us begin to feel the pressures this time of year can bring, especially around gift-giving.

YWCA staff and volunteers notice another trend around the holidays: the stress felt by many single mothers who participate in our programs or live in one of our transition or long-term housing communities. For these moms, just getting food on the table is hard enough, let alone holiday gifts. This year, they are also navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, which has added to their daily challenges.

To minimize your holiday shopping stress and help low-income single mothers and their families, we invite you to join our annual holiday giving campaign: YWCA Simplify the Season.

Last year, Simplify the Season helped more than 600 single-mother-led families. This year we want to help 1,000!

Starting at $20, choose a gift that really matters. All gifts come with a tax receipt.

  • $20 buys an emergency grocery food voucher for a single mother and her family.
  • $50 supports families living at YWCA second-stage transition houses and YWCA long-term housing communities.
  • $75 helps Indigenous babies and toddlers build family bonds through storytelling, crafts and other Indigenous traditions.
  • $100 provides a single mother who has experienced intimate partner violence with legal representation to resolve her family law, immigration, and child protection matters.
  • $135 provides healthy breakfasts, lunches and ongoing access to food for a single mother at YWCA Crabtree Corner in the Downtown Eastside.
