Creating Pathways to Opportunity: YWCA Participants Visit Sage

Earlier this year, participants from the YWCA Engage Mentorship Hub and other YWCA employment programs had the unique opportunity to visit Sage, a software company and long-time supporter of YWCA Metro Vancouver. This career exploration event offered participants a chance to see a thriving workplace, learn about career paths in technology, and connect with professionals from multiple departments.

Sage has been a dedicated partner of the YWCA, volunteering time and resources to support women and families. Most recently, their team helped assemble self-care kits with essential items for women and children in YWCA programs. Events like the workplace visit build on that partnership, providing YWCA participants with meaningful experiences that expand their skills, confidence and professional networks.

“Our collaboration with YWCA Metro Vancouver is about creating pathways to equity and opportunity. By partnering on initiatives like the Engage Mentorship Hub and career exploration events, we aim to help participants build confidence, expand their networks and access meaningful employment opportunities,” said Fanny Laguna, Sustainability and Foundation Director. “This aligns with YWCA’s mission to advance gender equity and Sage’s commitment to knocking down barriers so everyone can thrive.”

During the visit, 22 participants and four YWCA employees toured Sage’s downtown Vancouver office, exploring flexible workspaces, collaborative areas and a gathering centre overlooking Burrard Inlet and Coal Harbour. Participants listened to a presentation about Sage, participated in a career coaching session and had an opportunity to ask questions directly to team members and the HR Manager. The session offered practical guidance, inspiration and the chance to connect directly with professionals across roles in human resources, sales, Sage Foundation , and development.

“Sage has a long-standing relationship with the YWCA, and we deeply admire their work in creating inclusive opportunities and advocating for systemic change,” said Fanny. “Opening our office for this event was a natural extension of our shared values. We wanted to provide participants with a real-world experience — seeing our office spaces, meeting our teams and exploring career paths in technology. This initiative reflects Sage Foundation’s belief in using our resources, expertise and spaces to help communities thrive and prepare for the future of work.”

For YWCA participants, this was a hands-on opportunity to imagine career possibilities, build confidence and access mentorship. A heartfelt thanks to the Sage team for their continued partnership and for helping create meaningful pathways for women and gender-diverse job seekers to succeed in the workforce.
