Job Description

Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Associate Director, Finance (Housing) will be responsible for overall financial oversight for all YWCA housing programs, including budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.  They will be a resource person for the Housing programs and Finance regarding financial systems and reporting.  

What you’ll be doing: 

Analyze Data 

  • Develop long-term financial sustainability plan for housing programs  

  • Assess and analyze data to look for trends and determine financial implications across the housing communities to support informed decision-making and forecasting 

  • Develop dynamic pro formas for new and existing housing communities to facilitate revisions, scenario analysis, and what-if scenarios  

  • Analyze housing revenues, including rent and utilities allocations to ensure that revenue targets are being achieved 

  • Analyze capital reserve for current housing and set up the capital reserve funds for all housing programs, including amounts to be billed/received from partners 

  • Develop a long-term capital spending forecast in collaboration with the Facilities Manager for Housing and Violence Prevention 

Internal Housing and Violence Prevention Team and External Housing Partners 

  • Make recommendations to the Housing Team with respect to performance, value, and risk management 

  • Support the exploration of new housing communities and set up necessary systems to support the financial management of new communities 

  • Collaborate and coordinate with the YWCA’s housing partners on budgets and forecasts 

  • Ensure that financial arrangements with partners are followed and cost allocation with partners are billed accordingly 

  • Support the Housing Team’s development of the annual BC Housing budgets and the YWCA annual budget 

Improve Systems and Processes 

  • Lead the Finance Team in the exploration (system-wide gap analysis), design, and implementation of process automation/streamlining and support integration with financial reporting, capital budgeting, and long-term financial planning initiatives 

  • Ensure financial systems and processes are integrated with the tenant management software system and related processes 

Donor and Grant Funds 

  • Oversee allocation of donor and grant designated funds to ensure they are applied and spent by the correct housing community 

  • Ensure financial reporting requirements are met and registered covenants are adhered to for all housing programs 

  • Prepare financial reports based on grant requirements 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Provide direct supervision of 2-3 finance staff members 

  • Other related duties as required 

What you’ll need: 

  • Minimum 8 - 10 years' experience in an intermediate accounting position, with proven experience in developing, implementing and managing financial systems and controls 

  • An understanding of charitable organizations and fund accounting an asset 

  • High level management skills are required, including sound judgment and decision making, planning and organizing, problem solving, conflict resolution, time management and presentation skills 

  • Previous experience managing accounting staff  

  • Proven financial management and accounting knowledge, including knowledge of generally accepted accounting standards and financial reporting requirements  

  • Extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and accounting 

  • Experience with data query, transformation and visualization tools such as SQL and PowerBI, ERP and CPM systems, and developing models in Excel 

  • Advanced-to-expert level Excel skills, capable of developing complex financial models 

  • Proficient in computer software and experienced in financial systems and databases 

  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to explain and breakdown complex financial information and systems to others without a financial expertise 

  • Ability to analyze statements and financial information 

  • Detail oriented with critical thinking, and analytical skills 

  • Ability to work with limited direction within a complex and changing environment 

  • Demonstrated flexibility with others and job responsibilities 

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.  

  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
