Job Description

This is a full-time position in Fund Development, responsible for departmental leadership and raising Major Gift revenue for YWCA programs and services.  

The position will work closely with the Vice President of Fund Development and Special Events and a team of approximately 20 to ensure that the financial goals of the Fund Development Department are met, and that departmental strategies and processes align with the YWCA’s values and strategic objective.  This position also directly supervises a team of Fund Development Managers who are responsible for diverse donor portfolios and projects within the Fund Development Department. This position includes flexible work hours and the opportunity to work partially remotely. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Recruit, hire, train and lead a team of Fund Development Managers, including performance development reviews, meetings and plans. 

  • Alongside the Vice President of Fund Development & Special Events, lead the development of departmental strategic and tactical plans, in alignment with the YWCA’s strategic plan and values. 

  • Support the Vice President of Fund Development & Special Events with creating a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility as well as accountability, leading employee engagement strategies and managing HR processes related to the larger team of Fund Development Managers including recruiting, hiring, training new staff and off-boarding departing staff. 

  • Lead the Fund Development Department’s annual team Visioning Day alongside a committee of Fund Development colleagues. 

  • Collaborate on revenue and expense budgets. 

  • Build strong relationships with program staff and represent the Fund Development Department on committees or projects.  

  • Identify, research, and build relationships with major gifts prospects which will result in face-to-face meetings and the solicitation of major gifts. 

  • Manage a portfolio of donors and write compelling funding proposals and reports. 

  • Conduct research for Fund Development purposes on social issues addressed by YWCA programs. 

  • Review and edit proposals written by Fund Development colleagues. 

  • Ensure accurate donor records by updating donor interactions, giving intensions, communication preferences and recognition in Raiser’s Edge. 

  • Participate in and support planning and execution of donor events when needed. 

  • Other duties as required 

What you’ll need: 

  • A degree/diploma in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  

  • Strong relationship building, strategy development and fundraising skills with a minimum of 7 years of related experience.   

  • Experience supporting and supervising staff, including oversight of HR processes. 

  • Knowledge of prospects with a proven track record in closing annual, major and planned gift asks. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write a variety of documents, such as proposals, reports and correspondence. 

  • Experience with prospect research as well as researching social issues. 

  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills. 

  • Strategic, proactive work style. 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team. 

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills. 

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge would be an advantage. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility. 

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required. 

  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
