Job Description

What you’ll be doing:

  • Facilitate the single mothers peer support group meetings in person (Friday mornings in Langley, from 10am-noon, 35 meetings a year)

  • Attend monthly facilitator meetings to share information and resources with other group facilitators (held on the last Monday of the month from 12:30-2:30pm in Langley OR on the last Wednesday of the month from 6 to 8 pm in Vancouver)

  • Responsible for content, continuity and tone of the group meetings; creating safe and supportive environment for women

  • Support with set up and clean up before and after meeting including sanitizing common areas

  • Conduct intake of potential group members

  • Assist coordination with community partner for the group meetings

  • Provide YWCA and partner agency with monthly group reports as required

  • Attend monthly facilitator meetings to share information and resources with other group facilitators

  • Provide community resources, information and referral to individual group members as needed

  • Ability to facilitate meetings in person and on Zoom

  • Other duties as required

What you’ll need:

  • Must have solid experience in group facilitation.  

  • Knowledge in group process and dynamics, especially in peer support model.  Demonstrated ability to manage group dynamics to achieve positive outcomes. 

  • Training and experience in the social services field, such as social work, counseling or community support. 

  • Excellent communications skills, including conflict management. 

  • Solid understanding of the issues faced by single mothers today. Experience of single parenthood an asset. 

  • Solid knowledge of the various local community services in Langley, and the Fraser Valley and resources available to single moms and their children. For this group, knowledge of pre-natal and post-natal services for moms is an asset.

  • Experience working with multi-barriered women and people from diverse backgrounds 

  • Believe in empowering women and passionate about supporting women in their journey towards personal and economic independence 

  • Prefer applicants who have lived experience as a parent, please indicate in your cover letter.

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.

  • Pay Rate: $400 contract fee per month plus $20/month travel & parking allowance
