Event Description

Did you know that nearly half of all food produced in Canada is never consumed, yet one-in-four Canadians are food insecure? For households led by single moms, food insecurity rates reach as high as 38% here in BC.

At YWCA Metro Vancouver, we address food insecurity for all of the single mothers and children in our programs through support groups and workshops or by providing grocery gift certificates in urgent times. Breakfast and lunch at YWCA Crabtree Corner are made fresh in-house, with ingredients from our Rooftop Garden during growing season and with generous food donations. We know how critical healthy meals are for the overall well-being of women and children in our community.

On May 22, join us as we hear from our 2024 Women of Distinction Awards recipient in the Entrepreneurship & Innovation category, FoodMesh CEO Jessica Regan, about her organization’s work to redirect unsold products to those in need. FoodMesh supports more than 2,500 food businesses, farmers and charities, and has saved 30 million kilograms of food from landfills.

Weather depending, we will offer a tour of our incredible Rooftop Garden.
