Program Leaders will facilitate and support groups of volunteers in the Guide to High School programs, which aims to support Grade 7 participants in their transition to high school. This is achieved through once a week in-person sessions where youth will learn about healthy living, stress management, friendships, peer pressure, setting boundaries, power dynamics, and the overall high school experience.
What you’ll be doing:

Deliver and oversee the Guide to High School program
-
Lead program discussions, including those on more complex topics such as identity, power dynamics, oppression and bullying, etc.

Lead a meaningful weekly territorial acknowledgment
-
Ensure the physical and emotional safety of program participants
-
Intervene in incidents of distracting or concerning behaviour
-
Oversee attendance and dismissal of participants each session
-
Purchase program snacks each week (gift cards provided)
-

Support a volunteer team of 2 facilitators and 2-3 high school students in delivering the program each week

Communicate weekly amongst teams of volunteers to assist with delegating program responsibilities.

Provide coaching and feedback to volunteers

Ensure the program is delivered effectively (Volunteers are prepared and sharing information in line with the program values/goals)

Perform basic administrative duties

Weekly communication with YWCA Program staff (either by phone or email) about the status of the program at your school.

Attend approximately 17 hours of hybrid (in-person and online) training sessions

Provide feedback on program curriculum

Other duties as required
What you’ll need:
-
Must be at least 18 years old
-
Minimum six months of demonstrated facilitation experience (includes volunteer experience).

Current First Aid certificate is an asset (Required is successful candidate)

Experience working with youth and volunteers
-
Experience in community program settings
-
Strong leadership, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment

A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties
