Emma’s Early Learning and Child Care Centre provides quality childcare to 24 infants and toddlers, aged 6 weeks to 3 years old. Many of the parents of these children are participating in the Young Parent Program at Tupper High School, while their children are cared for at Emma’s.
What you’ll be doing:

Maintain a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for all.
-
Create an environment that ensures the safety and healthy development of children and staff
-
Oversee programs to ensure that staff develop and implement creative, play-based programs designed to promote the development and learning of the children. This includes implementing the Pyramid Model.

Provide leadership, supervision and guidance to staff, substitute, practicum students and volunteers.

Responsible for carrying out the purposes and objectives of the YWCA in the direct management of Emma’s Child Care Centre, including
-
Administration of the Centre, including ensuring that the program is in compliance with all policies, procedures and standards, as set out by the licensing and governing agencies
-
Providing childcare to infants and toddlers as part of a team meeting licensing ratio requirements
-
Participate with other YWCA Child Care Supervisors in developing best practices, strategies and policies that support that YWCA childcare philosophy.

Work in close partnership with Tupper High School and the coordinators of the Young Parent Program
-
Provide support to teen parents to meet the reporting requirements of the MCFD young parent subsidy.

What you’ll need:
-
The successful candidate will have an Infant Toddler Certificate, Special Needs Certificate, Early Childhood Educator Certificate, current First Aid Certificate, and 3 - 5 years supervisory experience in a licensed childcare facility. A positive criminal record check clearance is required and references contacted.

Previous experience working with teen mothers is an asset.

Demonstrated experience in developing cohesive, creative play-based programs and supportive learning environments.

The ability to build a team spirit among staff through effective communication is paramount.

Problem solving and collaboration skills are required, as is the ability to remain calm and caring in stressful situations.

Relationship building in working with parents, school partners, health practitioners, social workers, is vitally important
-
Attention to detail is important, especially as it relates to ensuring that the centre operates in accordance with licensing and YWCA policies and procedures.

A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
