Job Description

IDP Consultants provide holistic support through the context of cultural values and beliefs for health, intellectual, emotional, physical, and traditional, and spiritual well-being for infants and children in a culturally safe manner.

What you’ll be doing:    

  • Functions as resource person for women with substance use issues who are pregnant and/or parenting. This includes practical support with issues of parenting, healthy infant development, food security, informal counselling/ peer support, crisis intervention and connections to other community resources. 

  • Role models positive parenting while providing the primary continuity of drop-in program 

  • Provides routine developmental assessments and referrals. 

  • Organizes donations/orders of equipment for babies 

  • Assists, organizes, and co-facilitates parent education and group experiences for parents and infants at Sheway. 

  • Works as part of an interdisciplinary team, including participating in team meetings, Drop in coverage and reception duties. 

  • Assists with compiling program statistics and locating relevant information for reports to funders. 

  • Maintains client records and relevant electronic records. 

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and compliance with policies of confidentiality. 

  • Other duties as required. 

  What you’ll need:  

  •  Grade 12 completion or equivalent 

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working as a direct support for marginalized pregnant women and mothers in a community setting. 

  • Working knowledge of typical infant development issues. 

  • Competency in basic computer applications (word processing, email, and internet) 

  • Competency in duties within a typical office environment (use of standard office equipment, filing procedures) 

  • Working knowledge of Vancouver’s DTES and social determinants of health preferred 

  • A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

Pay Rate: $28.05 per hour
