The Engage Mentorship Hub is a resource for YWCA Employment Program alumni to connect with mentors from a variety of industries, to expand their professional network, access knowledge & guidance, and learn about career paths and employment opportunities.
We are looking for career professionals to provide micro mentorship opportunities for self-identified newcomer women who have recently completed a YWCA employment program, supporting them as they seek new employment or careers. We welcome applications from self-employed professionals, currently employed individuals, recent retirees and those on parental leave.
Time Commitment: Short term, flexible micro mentorship dependent upon activity or event
What you’ll be doing:
- Mentors will strive to foster a positive short-term micro mentor relationship with mentees
- Mentors will overall, provide an opportunity for newcomer women to explore, ask questions and seek advice about their own search for employment, and develop networking connections
- Mentors and Mentees may meet in person or remotely using Teams or Zoom
- Dependent upon the activity or event, Mentors will provide information related to their own field of work, organization information, labour market, industry sector information, and employment opportunities in any of the following formats:
- Career Conversation Circles – mentor group sessions at the YWCA Program Centre
- 1:1 mentorship activities – in person meet-ups/virtual meetings
- Speed mentoring sessions – a series of short conversations about a specific topic
- Organization/Industry presentations – in person/virtual meetings
- Review the mentees topic of interest in advance of their meeting to ensure a shared understanding of the focus of the activity
- Provide discussion and guidance in area of topic of mentee’s interest
- Complete post activity surveys and/or share experience with mentor testimonials
What you’ll need:
- Recent labour market experience in the area of mentee’s career development related interests
- Ability to apply knowledge, experience, and expertise in area of mentee’s job search related interests
- Ability to work 1:1 or in groups
- A welcoming and friendly manner
- Experience with, but not necessary, to engage with newcomer women
- Experience with, but not necessary, to have had prior mentorship experience
- A clear criminal record check will be required except in organization/industry presentations
- Able to commit to scheduled sessions and activities coordinated with the Engage Hub team.
