YWCA Hotel

Every week since 1999, William (Bill) Bird, Chairman and CEO of Medallion Resources, travels from Victoria to Vancouver on business. While there are many hotel options available to Bill, he chooses to stay at the YWCA Hotel whenever he’s in town.

It was another Bill, Bill Taylor, who first recommended the YWCA Hotel to Bill Bird. Mr. Taylor, as the former CEO of the YM/YWCA of Greater Victoria, knows that our hotel is affordable, safe and perfectly located downtown. He also knows that all hotel proceeds go to support YWCA community programs. Bill Bird gave it a try and was really pleased with the experience.

The YWCA Hotel staff look forward to welcoming “our” warm and outgoing Bill each week. “It’s always a pleasure to see Bill Bird. It’s like meeting an old friend,” says Sally O’Neil, who works the front desk and has known Bill for 12 years. “We’ll talk about current issues and what’s happening in the community. He’s really well informed.”

“The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly, and the service is great! I’ve known them for years now and we’ve built good friendships,” explains Bill. “It’s always nice seeing familiar faces.”

While staying at the hotel, guests have free access to the YWCA Health + Fitness Centre, which Bill always takes advantage of. After conducting his downtown business he works out at the centre. “It’s only a five-minute run from the hotel,” says Bill. “It’s great that I can maintain my fitness routine while travelling.”

Bill has been a long-time supporter of the YWCA and admires the work we do in the community. “I helped the YM/YWCA of Greater Victoria with its fundraising campaigns and now I support the Vancouver YWCA as a hotel guest,” explains Bill.

“I always encourage my friends and family to stay at the YWCA Hotel when they’re in Vancouver. They can enjoy the city and support its community at the same time.”

A social enterprise, YWCA Hotel provides affordable accommodation for travellers and generates revenue that sustains our community service work. For more information, visit ywcahotel.com or call 604 895 5830.
