Brandi's Journey to Career Success with YWCA's Employment Navigator Program
Frustrated with long hours and low pay, Brandi decided to expand her career options. The problem was the job she really wanted required further education, and she was a single mother of small children, working two additional jobs just to cover her cost of living.
That’s when Brandi reached out to the YWCA Employment Navigator program. She inquired about help to fund her schooling, so she could focus on her education and parenthood—not on working three jobs.
“I met with an Employment Navigator several times to discuss my personal goals and she helped me create an action plan to help make my dreams become a reality.”
With their guidance, Brandi applied to universities and bursaries and secured a $12,000 scholarship. She then enrolled at the University of the Fraser Valley, excited to fulfil her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher.
This summer, Brandi graduated with her Bachelor of Education. And the best part - her first day as a substitute teacher was at her daughter’s school!
