Crabtree Corner Early Learning and Child Care Centre

YWCA Crabtree Corner Early Learning and Child Care Centre offers free, licensed short-term care for children six weeks to five years old, for up to 12 days a month.

ELIGIBILITY

Child care is FREE for families who are:

Using Crabtree Corner community programs
Living in the Downtown Eastside, Strathcona or Grandview neighbourhoods
Living in shelters in other parts of the city, or
Led by a single mother enrolled in eligible YWCA programs.

Our centre reserves the right to prioritize our child care service for those most in need and to verify families’ eligibility.

Please read each section below (click on "+" to expand) before proceeding with registration.

Daily Sign-In:

Each day, parents or guardians need to complete the sign-in sheet, including an emergency contact name and phone number and a phone number where you
can be reached. Your child will only be released to the person who is named on the sign-in sheet, unless staff are otherwise notified. The sign-in sheet provides
us with all the information we need to care for your child that day.

While we often have extra clothing at the centre, we ask that you send an extra set of clothes for your child. Please label all of your child’s items. Children
should be dressed for the weather, as we spend time outdoors every day on the playground and may go on local field trips.

Late Arrivals and Cancellations:

Call 604 216 1650 to cancel if you no longer need space, as we often have a waiting list. Your space will be held until 10:00am. After that tim
e, if you have not called, other families will be given that space on a first come, first serve basis. We do not accept children after 11:00am.

Late Pick-Up:

We close at 3:30pm. Please call if you are going to be late. The YWCA Early Learning and Care Centres have a late fee policy in place. This policy may apply
to your family if you are late to pick-up your child.

Staff are required by law to ensure anyone picking up their child will be able to care for him or her. We cannot send a child home alone with a person who has
been drinking or using other drugs.

Note: Only individuals listed on intake and registration forms will be allowed to pick-up children, unless staff have been notified.

Children often become ill. For the health and safety of everyone at the centre,
your child is too ill to attend if he or she has:

A temperature above 100 F (38 C)
Diarrhea
Been vomiting within the last 24 hours
Is listless and unable to participate in the program activities
Discharge from their nose or eyes
A heavy cough
Draining sores

Before your child can return to the centre, they:

Must have been on medication for at least 24 hours
Must have gone 24 hours without diarrhea or vomiting

A doctor’s note may be required upon your child’s return to Crabtree Corner Early Learning and Child Care Centre. If your child is on prescription medication that needs to be administered by staff, a permission form must be signed.

HOW TO JOIN

STEP 1: Enroll your child

Gradual entry is required for enrollment. To register, please call 604 216 1650. Once your registration is complete, we will contact you to schedule gradual entry. After families have completed this process, they can reserve program spaces weekly, for up to 12 days per month. If your child requires special support, please speak with the supervisor before making your first reservation.

STEP 2: Book your child's spot

Once your child is enrolled in the program and has completed gradual entry, you will need to call us on Wednesdays at 604 216 1655 between 1:00 - 1:30pm to secure a spot.
No in-person registrations will be taken during this time. Please note that reservations are for the following week.
After 1:30pm on Wednesday, reservations can be made by phoning 604 216 1650. We continue to take reservations until spaces are full.

Closed on all statutory holidays plus two professional development days per year. Families will be given at least six weeks’ notice of these closure dates.
