Legal Supports for Women

YWCA staff lawyer and legal educator, hosts free workshops for the public on a broad range of legal issues, advocates for a more equitable, humane and compassionate legal system, and supports YWCA staff to navigate courts and institutions. 

Legal services for YWCA housing residents

YWCA Staff Lawyer provides free legal services to YWCA housing residents who have experienced violence from an intimate partner and are facing ongoing safety concerns. These services support residents in resolving family law, immigration, and child protection matters.

Working with a Legal Aid Lawyer

Tuesday, August 26th - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This public legal education workshop will be hosted by Zain Abdulla (she/her), Staff Lawyer at the YWCA. The workshop will provide an overview of how to apply for a Legal Aid lawyer, as well as advice as to making the most efficient use of time with a Legal Aid lawyer. We will review topics including, but not limited to, the application process, drafting a chronology of events, gathering and sorting through relevant documents, keeping track of hours, and applying for additional hours. The workshop will also include a Q&A session at the end.
