Higher Ground

YWCA Higher Ground is a free program for self-identified women who want to explore opportunities in the skilled trades.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
  • Explore a range of skilled trade occupations and choose a personalized career pathway
  • Connect to employers, unions and post-secondary schools
  • Gain exposure through industry site visits, employer connections, mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Receive continuous one-to-one career coaching to help navigate the skilled trades pathways
  • Participate in skill-building and confidence-boosting workshops
  • Receive wraparound supports, including childcare, transportation, health and fitness, personal counselling, education supports and accessibility accommodations
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE
  • A self-identifying woman (age 16+) who is unemployed or underemployed
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Not a full-time student
  • Interested in exploring a career in the skilled trades
  • Open to hands-on learning and career discovery
  • Available to attend two weeks of pre-training and exploration workshops
  • Resident of Metro Vancouver

 

We accept participants on an ongoing basis.
