Higher Ground
YWCA Higher Ground is a free program for self-identified women who want to explore opportunities in the skilled trades.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- Explore a range of skilled trade occupations and choose a personalized career pathway
- Connect to employers, unions and post-secondary schools
- Gain exposure through industry site visits, employer connections, mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities
- Receive continuous one-to-one career coaching to help navigate the skilled trades pathways
- Participate in skill-building and confidence-boosting workshops
- Receive wraparound supports, including childcare, transportation, health and fitness, personal counselling, education supports and accessibility accommodations
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE
- A self-identifying woman (age 16+) who is unemployed or underemployed
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, legally entitled to work in Canada
- Not a full-time student
- Interested in exploring a career in the skilled trades
- Open to hands-on learning and career discovery
- Available to attend two weeks of pre-training and exploration workshops
- Resident of Metro Vancouver
