Virtual workshop facilitated by Diana Kamau and Clara Prager from Women Transforming Cities. Registration will be limited to 35 participants. The workshop is built around active engagement between participants and will not be recorded or shared.

Local governments are the closest level of government to communities and the decisions they make have a significant impact on our daily lives. Join us to gain a deeper understanding of how local governments in Metro Vancouver work, as well as learn how you can advocate to your local government on issues that are important to you or your community. Topics covered during this interactive workshop will include:

• Overview of Metro Vancouver local government councils.
• Why do local governments matter? How do they affect our lives?
• What are local governments responsible for? And what power do they have?
• How decisions are made at the local government level.
• How you can influence and advocate to your local governments.

Clara Prager

Clara Prager (she/her) is a Project Lead with Women Transforming Cities (WTC) where she coordinates the organization's truth telling and reconciliation in local government work and supports on advocacy campaigns through WTC's Watch Council program.

She is passionate about empowering others to use their voices to create more equitable systems and policies within local governments.

Diana Kamau

Diana Kamau (she/her) is a Black African immigrant woman living on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Sel̓íl̓witulh, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm Nations.

She currently works at Women Transforming Cities as a Community Organizer thinking through issues regarding equity and social justice at a local grassroots level.
